Villas-Boas To Ignite FC Porto Link With Angola

André Villas-Boas, the president of FC Porto, has expressed his intention to reinstate the club’s protocol with the Angola Football Academy during his two-day visit to Luanda.
Highlighting the academy’s significant contributions both in sport and community development, Villas-Boas underlined the importance of re-establishing connections that were first explored in 2013.

Reviving a Valuable Partnership

Speaking about the academy, which currently supports over 800 athletes, including 300 in competition, Villas-Boas praised its excellence. “It is a very high number and worth noting,” he remarked. “I recall a protocol established in 2013 with FC Porto that, unfortunately, never materialised. Now, we aim to revisit this agreement, potentially forming a foundation for future collaborations between FC Porto, the Angolan people, and their institutions.”

Expanding FC Porto’s Reach

Villas-Boas outlined his broader vision of internationalising the FC Porto brand by connecting with global communities. “We want to promote a protocol that is sporting, for attracting talent, but also commercial, to grow the FC Porto brand and its positioning. From an emotional point of view, we aim to strengthen the love that Porto fans in Angola have for the club,” he stated.

The president also emphasised that this initiative aligns with FC Porto’s global strategy. “Since taking office, we have worked towards international growth. This includes corporate protocols recently established in Brazil and Colombia. Within the next year or two, we hope to implement similar partnerships in Angola.”

Future Plans in Angola

Villas-Boas mentioned that the decision on how to implement the protocol will follow a thorough study. “We will decide whether to proceed through the Dragon Force Academies or through cooperation with other academies or clubs,” he said. The initiative aims to develop talent while enhancing FC Porto’s global presence and building stronger ties with Angolan fans.

Site Opinion

The revival of FC Porto’s partnership with the Angola Football Academy demonstrates André Villas-Boas’ commitment to fostering international collaborations. Such initiatives not only contribute to football development in Angola but also allow FC Porto to broaden its global footprint and build on its existing fanbase in the region.

By merging commercial interests with community engagement, Villas-Boas is positioning FC Porto as a club that values its international supporters while recognising the potential of grassroots football. If executed effectively, this partnership could serve as a model for other clubs looking to balance talent development with brand expansion.
