Polish striker Daniel Mikołajewski is set to leave Italian side Parma and return to his homeland with a loan move to Ekstraklasa club Zagłębie Lubin.
The transfer, which is expected to be completed before the Polish transfer window closes on September 6, is seen as an opportunity for the 18-year-old to gain valuable first-team experience.
Mikołajewski joined Parma in September 2022 after being close to a move to Roma. However, the deal with Roma fell through due to disagreements between the Giallorossi and his former club, Jaguar Gdańsk. Parma capitalized on the situation, securing the young forward’s services, but his opportunities in Italy have been limited since his arrival.
During his time at Parma, Mikołajewski featured sporadically under coach Fabio Pecchia. He was part of the senior squad for their retreat this summer and was even called up for Parma’s Serie A match against Napoli. However, his path to regular first-team football has been obstructed by the wealth of attacking options at Parma, prompting the decision to send him out on loan.
The move to Zagłębie Lubin offers Mikołajewski the chance to reignite his career in Poland. Currently away with the Polish U-19 national team, the striker recently scored in a 2-0 friendly win over Kazakhstan, demonstrating his potential at the international youth level. His performances for Poland, particularly his role in the U-17 team’s bronze medal finish at the 2023 European Championships, have made him a highly regarded prospect.
Zagłębie Lubin have had a mixed start to their 2024/25 Ekstraklasa campaign. After seven matches, they sit 11th in the table, having secured two wins, two draws, and three losses. Consistency has been a challenge for the team with five goals scored and seven conceded. Their season began with a 2-0 defeat to Legia Warsaw, but they bounced back with a 2-2 draw against Pogoń Szczecin and a 1-1 draw against GKS Katowice.
Despite the mid-table position, there is a sense of optimism surrounding Miedziowi, particularly with the retention of key players Tomasz Pieńko and Bartłomiej Kłudka. The players were reportedly targeted by Raków Częstochowa and Lechia Gdańsk, but will remain with the club as they look to push further up the league standings.

For Mikołajewski, this loan move represents a pivotal moment in his young career. At just 18 years old, the towering forward has already demonstrated his ability on the international stage, and now he has the chance to prove himself at the club level. Whether he can break into Zagłębie Lubin’s first team or play a key role in the reserves remains to be seen, but the striker will be eager to make the most of this opportunity.
At Zagłębie Lubin, Mikołajewski will face stiff competition for a starting role. Coach Waldemar Fornalik’s team typically plays with a single striker in their preferred system, and the likes of Dawid Kurminowski and Václav Sejk are already battling for that position. Both players have managed to find the back of the net once so far this season, meaning Mikołajewski will need to prove his worth if he is to secure regular playing time.
As Zagłębie Lubin look to improve their standing in the Ekstraklasa, the arrival of a talented young forward like Mikołajewski could be a key factor in their success this season. The move also gives Mikołajewski a chance to take the next step in his development, potentially paving the way for a permanent return to Poland or a fresh start in Italy once his loan spell ends.
