Palermo continued their strong start to the season with a commanding 3-1 victory away at Juve Stabia in Serie B.
The pink-blacks delivered a clinical performance, securing their second consecutive away win, and moving up to 7 points, just two behind leaders Spezia and Brescia. Their victory ruined Juve Stabia’s homecoming and disrupted their strong start to the season.
Palermo started brightly and struck first in the 18th minute. Jacopo Segre, with a perfectly timed volley from Edoardo Pierozzi’s cross, gave the visitors an early advantage. Juve Stabia tried to respond quickly, with Floriani Mussolini hitting the post and a series of near-misses from Mosti and Adorante. Despite the pressure, Palermo’s defence held firm, and their precision in attack made all the difference.
The second goal came just before halftime, courtesy of Francesco Di Francesco, who whipped in a brilliant cross for Jonny Henry to head home. Palermo looked comfortable going into the break with a 2-0 lead.
Juve Stabia pulled one back in the 61st minute when a corner led to a goal by Simone Adorante, who turned in Luca Buglio’s header. However, any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Matteo Brunori earned a penalty for Palermo in the 79th minute, which he calmly converted to secure the 3-1 victory. Brunori’s first goal of the season wrapped up a dominant performance for Palermo, who have now gone three games unbeaten.
Juve Stabia, despite their efforts, succumbed to their first defeat of the season. For Palermo, this win marked another important step forward, putting them firmly in the top half of the table.
Elsewhere in Serie B
Elsewhere, Serie B leaders Spezia managed to maintain their undefeated status but were held to a 1-1 draw away at Cremonese. The Grigiorossi took the lead through Michele Collocolo’s long-range strike, but Spezia’s persistent pressure paid off when Petko Hristov headed in a second-half equalizer. Despite some late chances for both sides, the game ended in a stalemate, leaving Spezia level on points with Brescia at the top.
Brescia, meanwhile, enjoyed a thumping 4-0 victory over Frosinone. They dominated from start to finish, with goals from Dimitri Bisoli and Giacomo Olzer, before Gabriele Moncini capped the win with a late penalty. Frosinone, still winless, had no answer to Brescia’s firepower.
Bari finally found their first win of the season, defeating Mantova 2-0. New signings Fabio Lella and Valerio Mantovani were on the scoresheet, lifting the Apulians to four points. Despite an early scare from Mantova, Bari grew into the game, and the visitors’ frustration was compounded when Filippo Trimboli was sent off in the second half.
In other results, Cittadella and Catanzaro played out a 0-0 draw, with neither side able to capitalize on their chances. Cittadella’s defensive solidity saw them extend their unbeaten run to four matches, while Catanzaro continued to build on their win before the international break.
Site Opinion: An Open Division
Palermo’s performance against Juve Stabia highlighted their efficiency in front of goal and the tactical discipline brought by coach Eugenio Corini. Their ability to absorb pressure and strike at the right moments makes them a dangerous team in this Serie B campaign. Brunori’s penalty will hopefully unlock his season after a slow start, and with the team looking more cohesive with each game, they could be dark horses in the promotion race.
As for the rest of the league, Spezia and Brescia continue to set the pace, but neither looks invincible. Spezia’s reliance on set pieces could be a potential weakness if teams begin to limit their aerial threat, while Brescia’s hammering of Frosinone suggests they have the depth to sustain a promotion push. The season is still young, but these two teams are laying down early markers.
