Manchester United To Seal Cut-Price Deal For Premier League Star

Manchester United are weighing up a surprise summer swoop for Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff as they assess cost-effective options for midfield reinforcements.

The Red Devils are joined by Everton and Leeds United in pursuit of the experienced Premier League player. United have revived interest in Longstaff, with the 27-year-old emerging as a realistic summer target due to his modest price tag and Premier League pedigree.

Premier League Pedigree

Longstaff, who has made over 200 appearances for his boyhood club, is entering the final year of his contract. Despite remaining a popular figure on Tyneside, his role under Eddie Howe has diminished, with just 12 league starts this season. With Newcastle looking to raise funds to support their summer spending ambitions, a cut-price sale—expected to be around £12 million—could suit all parties.

While not top of United’s shortlist, the midfielder is firmly on their radar, as the club seeks to bolster their depth amid ongoing concerns over injuries and consistency in central areas. Sources indicate the club’s recruitment team have long admired Longstaff’s work rate and positional discipline, having first explored a move back in 2019.

Everton Also Interested

Alongside Manchester United, Everton are pushing hard to bring in the North Shields native, with incoming boss David Moyes reportedly keen to add seasoned top-flight players to a squad expected to undergo major surgery. Leeds United, newly promoted as Championship winners, are also in the frame and view Longstaff as an ideal fit for Daniel Farke’s energetic system.

Despite making 32 appearances in all competitions this season, Longstaff has largely played a supporting role due to the emergence of Bruno Guimarães and the arrival of Sandro Tonali. With Newcastle plotting an ambitious summer, including reported moves for Eberechi Eze and a record-breaking price tag set for striker Alexander Isak, they are expected to offload several homegrown players to balance the books.

Longstaff, who has also spent time on loan at Blackpool and Kilmarnock, has scored 16 goals in 213 outings for the Magpies. He is believed to be open to a move—but only if it guarantees him regular first-team football.

Site Opinion

While Sean Longstaff may not generate headlines, he represents exactly the kind of squad depth signing Manchester United have often overlooked. For a side stretched by fixture demands and inconsistent performances in midfield, his experience and tactical reliability could prove invaluable. At just £12 million, this would be a shrewd acquisition—especially if United plan to invest bigger elsewhere. The only question is whether Longstaff would accept a supporting role again, or whether a club like Everton or Leeds could offer him the minutes he craves.
