Manchester United Close In On Napoli Star: Deal Agreed

Napoli’s Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen looks set for a high-profile transfer to Manchester United following a standout season on loan at Galatasaray.

Osimhen to Depart Napoli for Old Trafford

According to Turkish journalist Aygun Ozipek, Napoli are preparing to bid farewell to Victor Osimhen, who is expected to complete a transfer to Manchester United this summer. After spending the 2024/25 season with Turkish giants Galatasaray, Osimhen’s next move appears to be towards the Premier League.

Ozipek reports that Osimhen will pen a five-year deal with the Red Devils, with a salary of £13 million per year. Manchester United are understood to be paying around £51 million to secure his services from Napoli.

Manchester United’s Need for a Reliable Striker

United’s struggles up front have been well-documented this season. Rasmus Hojlund, who recently led the line in the 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers without managing a single shot on target, has yet to fully deliver following his high-profile move from Atalanta. Similarly, Joshua Zirkzee, a summer arrival from Bologna, has found it difficult to adjust to the Premier League’s intensity and physical demands.

In contrast, Osimhen has shone during his spell in Turkey. Across 34 appearances for Galatasaray, the 26-year-old has recorded an impressive 29 goals and six assists. His strong physicality and effective hold-up play have complemented his clinical finishing, making him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe.

Financial Considerations for United

With United under scrutiny from the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, the club faces a delicate balancing act in the transfer market. The signing of Osimhen could prompt player departures, with Rasmus Hojlund a potential casualty. Joshua Zirkzee is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, making Hojlund’s exit more plausible to offset the expenditure on the Nigerian international.

Champions League qualification, potentially via winning the Europa League, could ease financial pressures. Otherwise, United’s summer spending might rely heavily on generating funds through player sales.

Site Opinion

From Napoli’s perspective, parting ways with Victor Osimhen feels bittersweet. After arriving from Lille and helping the club achieve notable successes, including their Scudetto-winning season, Osimhen has continued to enhance his reputation even during his loan period. Although a departure to Manchester United is a significant move for the player, it underscores the financial realities that even Italy’s top sides must sometimes face.

There is no doubt Osimhen will be missed in Naples. His all-action style, relentless work rate, and clinical goal-scoring ability made him a fan favourite at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. While his exit will leave a sizeable gap in the squad, Napoli will hope the substantial transfer fee provides the resources to rebuild and reassert themselves at the top of Serie A and in European competitions.
