Manchester United and Paris St Germain in Race for €70m Star

Manchester United have entered the race to sign AS Monaco’s highly rated forward Maghnes Akliouche, joining city rivals Manchester City in pursuit of the French talent, according to a report from L’Équipe.

The 23-year-old, who has enjoyed his most consistent season to date, is expected to leave Monaco this summer. Despite extending his contract until 2028 last year amid previous interest from City and Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco have placed a price tag of between €70–80 million (£60–68 million) on the young star, consistent with the club’s model of selling at peak value.

Monaco manager Adi Hütter spoke openly about Akliouche’s future, stating, “When you ask me, he is ready to make the next step. We will see what happens with Maghnes.”

Manchester United’s interest has intensified recently, with L’Équipe noting that the Old Trafford club have joined the queue alongside City and PSG. Real Madrid could also enter the fray, particularly if Xabi Alonso takes over as manager this summer; Alonso is known to be an admirer of the France youth international.

Akliouche has long been tipped as a future star, with PSG maintaining strong interest despite his contract renewal. L’Équipe reported, “Paris has positioned itself to bring in Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco). ASM are also counting on the departure of their great hope this summer.”

Despite fierce competition for places at Paris Saint-Germain, Akliouche is viewed as a strong candidate to bolster their offensive ranks, especially under manager Luis Enrique, who has a strong track record of nurturing young talents.

Maghnes Akliouche’s situation exemplifies the intense competition between Europe’s elite clubs to secure the next generation of stars. With Manchester United, Manchester City, PSG and potentially Real Madrid all in the race, the coming months promise a transfer saga worth watching. His technical skill, creativity and intelligence in attack make him a perfect fit for modern high-pressing systems.

For United, Akliouche represents not only a marquee signing but a strategic investment in youth, something Erik ten Hag has repeatedly emphasised. However, securing the Frenchman’s signature ahead of City’s financial might and PSG’s Parisian pull will require swift and decisive action — something United have not always been known for in recent windows.
