Feyenoord Secure International Loan Deal

Dutch title hopefuls Feyenoord had added 19-year-old Ghana international Ibrahim Osman to their squad for the upcoming Eredivisie season.

Osman has been with Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion, having signed for £16 million in the summer. His move from Danish team FC Nordsjalland came with a five-year contract, but he has only featured fleetingly in the Seagulls pre-season campaign.

He had a standout season in Denmark, with 11 goals and five assists, which also earned him a call-up for his country. He played in matches against Nigeria and Uganda, with his debut coming against the former. At the time, he claimed it was a ‘little taste‘, but he was hungry for more.

That opportunity may well come with a move to De Club aan de Maas, where he will be exposed not only to a title chase but also to Champions League football. Brian Priske’s side finished second in the Eredivisie last season and will enter the group stages in September.

“At Feyenoord, young players get the chance to develop,” he told the club’s official site. “For my development, it is good to play here and improve aspects of my game.

“I want to use my qualities to help the team achieve great things in the Eredivisie and in Europe.”

Fans of the Rotterdam-based side will be hoping he recreates his sensational Danish form in the Netherlands. The 2023 champions finished seven points behind rivals PSV in the title race, but they did win the KNVB Cup, defeating PSV in the round of 16. They also beat their rivals in the Johan Cruyff Shield over the summer, giving them hope of a title challenge. That game ended 4-4, had three penalties, and saw them throw away a 4-1 lead before winning with even more spot kicks.

Site Opinion

Osman is certainly an exciting prospect, and Brighton couldn’t have hoped for a better loan. There’s an irony that he’s not regarded as a first team prospect at Feyenoord, but he could be appearing in the biggest stadiums in Europe in the Champions League.

It’s perhaps reflective of how big the Premier League really is, but a loan allows Feyenoord access to a top quality youngster without significant outlay. it’ll be interesting to see how he settles in the Netherlands, which is an engrossing league with several big sides vying for success.
