Danish International Reveals Decision To Leave English Club After Sacking

Norwich City midfielder Jacob Sørensen has spoken out about his decision to leave the club this summer, confirming that the choice to move on was entirely his own.

Sørensen explains emotional exit

The Danish midfielder, 27, will depart Carrow Road when his contract expires, ending a five-year association with the Canaries. Speaking to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Sørensen revealed that he felt it was the right time to seek a new challenge after half a decade in Norfolk.

Reflecting on his decision, Sørensen said he was eager for a fresh experience and the opportunity to explore new horizons both on and off the pitch:

“It was a desire I had to try something new and see something different. I’ve been here for five years, so I need to experience something different and meet some other people.”

His comments underline a personal motivation behind the move rather than any club-driven decision. With his departure looming, there has been speculation that Sørensen could return to the Danish Superliga, although he remains open to all possibilities for his next career step.

During his tenure at Norwich, Sørensen made over 100 appearances and found the net four times. His versatility and work rate made him a dependable figure, including a stint in the Premier League during the 2021/22 campaign, where he featured ten times in the top flight.

In addition to discussing his own future, Sørensen also reacted to recent managerial upheaval at Carrow Road. The Dane admitted he was taken aback by the sacking of head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup and assistant Glen Riddersholm last week, a decision that sent shockwaves through the club.

Offering his candid perspective, Sørensen said:

“I was shocked and hadn’t seen it coming. I thought they would have a longer leash to shape the team, but that’s football. If the results are not there, it will be very short-term, and then something new will have to happen.”

The unexpected managerial changes add another layer of uncertainty to Norwich’s summer, as the club prepares for a significant rebuild both on the pitch and behind the scenes.

Site opinion

Sørensen’s departure feels like a natural point in his career to explore new opportunities, but the timing coincides awkwardly with major disruption at Norwich City. His honesty about the club’s leadership decisions sheds light on a wider sense of instability that could influence other players’ futures too. As Norwich aim to regroup and rebuild, ensuring stability will be crucial to their hopes for a stronger campaign next season.
