Bundesliga 2 Matchday 3 Highlights

It’s matchday three in Bundesliga 2, and there’s plenty of action to look over.

Nobody has a 100% record, and the relegated teams are not finding life in the division easy at all. We’ve picked three matches worthy of looking over once again as part of our matchday three roundup.

Match of the Weekend: Koln 5-0 Eintracht Braunschweig

After earning just a point from their first two matches back in Bundesliga 2, Koln unleashed their full potential against bottom-placed Eintracht Braunschweig, securing a dominant 5-0 victory. Dejan Ljubicic nearly opened the scoring before Timo Hübers nodded in Linton Maina’s set-piece in the 26th minute. Ljubicic found the net before halftime, with Maina once again providing the assist. Although Tim Lemperle was denied late in the first half, he made no mistake after the break, smashing the ball in off the crossbar to make it 3-0. Lemperle then set up Ljubicic for his second goal, before substitute Luca Waldschmidt fired home from 15 yards to seal the emphatic win.

Karlsruhe 3-2 Elversberg

Karlsruhe maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over winless Elversberg, making it three matches without a loss. Lasse Günther opened the scoring in style with a stunning volley, but Luca Schnellbacher equalized for Elversberg just before the half-hour mark. Shortly after the break, Fabian Schleusener put the hosts back in front, but Fisnik Asllani leveled the score again following several missed opportunities for Elversberg. Finally, Andrin Hunziker sealed the win for Karlsruhe, scoring just a minute after coming on as a substitute.

Magdeburg 2-2 Schalke

Magdeburg preserved their unbeaten start to the season with an exciting draw against Schalke. Moussa Sylla opened the scoring for Schalke with his third goal of the season, but Magdeburg managed to flip the game in their favor before the halftime whistle. After the break, Magdeburg dominated and nearly secured a third goal, but Schalke responded to even the score. In the end, both teams settled for a point, with Schalke feeling fortunate after a late penalty awarded to Magdeburg was overturned by VAR.
