Local media outlets and the police confirmed the incident on Tuesday, causing widespread outrage within the football community.
Response and Ongoing Investigations
The Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) has been notified of the incident, while the police have confirmed to the Austrian Press Agency (APA) that investigations are ongoing. “We are aware of the situation, but no further details can be disclosed at this time,” a police spokesperson stated.
The players’ union revealed that the majority of the affected players have since left the club. ORF Vorarlberg and other local media have extensively covered the shocking event, which has drawn significant attention to safety issues in football.
Players Leave
The most recent report suggest the players involved have been allowed to leave the club. With the support of the Association of Footballers (VdF), some of the affected players were able to amicably separate from the club.
“From the very first moment, it was and is our greatest concern to support the still shocked players. The first step towards this was the amicable separation from the club,” said Gernot Baumgartner, Chairman of the VdF.
