Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in advanced discussions to sign 17-year-old forward Mason Melia from St Patrick’s Athletic, according to sources at Football Insider.

It is understood that Spurs are leaving no stone unturned in their effort to finalise the deal, which could be worth up to €1 million (£825,000). Melia, a highly regarded prospect, recently visited Tottenham’s training facilities and was a guest at their high-profile match against Chelsea last week. The young Irishman has attracted interest from multiple Premier League clubs, including Everton, Crystal Palace, and Brighton.

However, due to FIFA regulations, Melia cannot officially join Spurs until he turns 18 next September. The Republic of Ireland Under-19 international remains under contract with St Patrick’s Athletic until November 2026.

Teenage Sensation with a Promising Career

Melia debuted for St Patrick’s Athletic in the League of Ireland Premier Division at just 15 years and 132 days, making him one of the youngest players to do so. Since then, he has played 54 senior matches, scoring 10 goals. In the 2024 season alone, he tallied seven goals and two assists over 35 appearances across all competitions.

He also featured in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers earlier this season, where his side faced Turkish team Istanbul Basaksehir. His performances at youth international levels for Ireland have further cemented his reputation as a rising star.

Tottenham’s interest in Melia aligns with their recent trend of securing young international talents. Earlier this year, they successfully signed Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall from Djurgården as a 17-year-old.
