Pisa Push On, First Win For Sampdoria – Serie B Round Up

This weekend’s Serie B action saw Pisa continue their winning streak with a 2-1 victory over Brescia, while Sampdoria earned their first win of the season by defeating Sudtirol.

We’ll cover all the key results from the weekend, including drama across the league, in this comprehensive round-up.

Pisa 2-1 Brescia

Pisa continued their fine form with a third consecutive win, defeating Brescia 2-1 at the Arena Garibaldi. It took just two minutes for Pisa to take the lead, with Piccinini finishing from a perfect cross by Moreo, scoring his first goal of the season. Brescia responded well, with Moncini coming close in the 17th minute, but his effort was deflected for a corner. Before half-time, Brescia’s goalkeeper Lezzerini denied Moreo, preventing Pisa from doubling their advantage.

Brescia started the second half strongly, and in the 48th minute, Moncini headed in from a Verreth free-kick to level the match. However, Pisa regained control, and in the 77th minute, Piccinini set up Tramoni, who slotted the ball into the corner to secure the win. Pisa now sit top of the table with 14 points, while Brescia’s two-game winning streak came to an end.

Palermo 0-0 Cesena

Palermo and Cesena played out a goalless draw at the Stadio Renzo Barbera, on an emotional day marked by a tribute to the late Totò Schillaci. Both teams warmed up in blue number 19 shirts in honour of Schillaci, and his nephew, Di Mariano, was visibly moved as he took to the pitch for Palermo.

The match itself was full of drama, with four goals disallowed for offside. Shpendi scored for Cesena in the fifth minute, only to see the goal ruled out, and Henry found the net shortly after, but was also offside. Shpendi continued to cause problems, having another goal chalked off in the second half, before Kargbo’s effort was also ruled out by VAR for an offside in the build-up. Despite the disallowed goals, neither side could break the deadlock, with Palermo earning their first away point of the season.

Cosenza 0-1 Sassuolo

Sassuolo claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Cosenza at the Marulla, thanks to a second-half goal from Laurienté. The first half was full of opportunities, with Mulattieri testing Cosenza goalkeeper Micai early on, and Laurienté causing problems down the left flank. In the 37th minute, Moldovan made a double save to deny Ciervo and Kouan, while Micai kept out Iannoni just before half-time.

The decisive moment came in the 52nd minute when Laurienté broke through to score, giving Sassuolo the lead. Cosenza pushed for an equaliser late on, and VAR was called to check a possible handball by Sassuolo’s Paz in the 86th minute, but no penalty was awarded. Sassuolo held on for the win, moving them to second place in the standings.

Reggiana 0-0 Salernitana

Reggiana and Salernitana played out a goalless draw, with Reggiana goalkeeper Bardi the star of the match. Bardi made several crucial saves, denying Braaf in the 11th minute and pulling off a spectacular stop to deny Wlodarczyk at 25 minutes. Salernitana dominated the second half, but Bardi continued to frustrate them, making key stops from Verde, Torregrossa, and Tello. Despite their efforts, Salernitana couldn’t find a way through, and Reggiana held on for a hard-earned point.

Sampdoria 1-0 Sudtirol

Sampdoria earned their first victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Sudtirol. Sottil’s side started brightly, with Poluzzi forced into action early on to save a shot from Tutino. In the 20th minute, Venuti broke the deadlock with a well-placed finish, marking his second goal of the campaign.

Venuti came close again in the 39th minute, hitting the crossbar with a powerful left-footed shot. Sudtirol’s Odogwu threatened with a header from a corner, but Sampdoria remained in control. Sudtirol pressed in the closing stages, with Arrigoni hitting the post and Silvestri making a crucial save to deny Merkaj, but Sampdoria held firm to secure their first three points of the season.

Modena 3-0 Juve Stabia

Modena comfortably beat Juve Stabia 3-0, securing an emphatic win at the Braglia Stadium. After a bright start by the visitors, Modena were awarded a penalty in the 25th minute after a foul in the box by Bozhanaj on Leone. Palumbo stepped up and converted the spot-kick with a calm finish down the middle to give his side the lead.

Santoro doubled the advantage just before half-time, firing in from the edge of the area after Thiam’s initial save. After a VAR review, the goal was confirmed, and Santoro celebrated his first for Modena. The home side added a third just after the break, with Abiuso heading in from a Palumbo free-kick to seal the win. Modena’s win moves them up to eighth place, while Juve Stabia suffered their second consecutive defeat under manager Pagliuca.
