Motherwell have bolstered their attacking options by re-signing forward Jack Vale on a season-long loan from Blackburn Rovers.
The 23-year-old Welshman, who spent the latter half of last season at Fir Park, is set to rejoin Stuart Kettlewell’s squad as they aim to build on their eighth-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.
Vale, who has already made two appearances for Blackburn this season, including scoring in their Carabao Cup victory over Stockport County, will be a welcome addition to the Motherwell attack. His return comes just in time, with the possibility of featuring in Saturday’s clash against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.
“It’s a nice feeling to be back at Fir Park, said Vale. “The time I spent here last season was really good, because I learnt so much in a short space of time.
“That was only from January onwards so I’m hoping with this move being for the season, I can accomplish more. There’s new faces but I know everyone around the place and some of the players from last time. It should be an easy transition and hopefully I can hit the ground running.
“I’ve been following all the results and everything about the club over the summer. It’s good to be back.”
Manager Kettlewell is delighted to get the player back, adding strength to The Steelmen’s side as they look to improve on their current SPFL placing of sixth.
“Getting Jack back for another season is great,” said the 40-year-old, “Everyone witnessed the impact he made last season. He has all the qualities to score goals at this level. We have been trying to get him back since the end of his previous loan deal, but Blackburn wanted to see his over the summer which is understandable. He’s in the building, he’s match fit and he’s ready to go.”
During his previous stint with Motherwell, Vale netted three goals in 14 appearances, and the club will be hoping he can replicate that form this season.
His move is pending international clearance.

The headline isn’t enticing – three-goal forwards are not in as high demand as 20-goal forwards, that is for sure. However, Vale is a harasser, a chaser of lost causes, and he may create chances simply by pulling defenders away from where they’re supposed to be.
He’s got a bit to prove as well – he had a disappointing loan spell at Lincoln City last season, and his goals return at Motherwell wasn’t great. If he can get going in Scotland, then it’s a super chance to kickstart his career.
