Fenerbahçe are on the verge of completing the highly anticipated transfer of former Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, after months of speculation.
The club has reached a four-year agreement with the Moroccan star following a private meeting between the player and manager José Mourinho. Sarı Kanaryalar has agreed on a loan deal with Fiorentina, which includes a mandatory purchase option. Negotiations over the fee for the mandatory purchase are in their final stages; Fiorentina initially demanded €15 million, but Fenerbahçe Vice President Acun Ilıcalı recently stated that the club is working to reduce this amount slightly.
Amrabat began his career in Dutch football, progressing through the youth ranks at FC Utrecht. He made his professional debut with Utrecht in 2014, quickly establishing himself as a promising talent. In 2017, he moved to Feyenoord, where he won the KNVB Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield in his first season.
After a brief stint with Club Brugge in Belgium, he joined Hellas Verona in Italy in 2019. His performances earned him a move to Serie A side Fiorentina in 2020. At Fiorentina, Amrabat became a key player, leading to a season-long loan at Manchester United with an option to buy. Reuniting with his former Utrecht coach, Erik ten Hag, his move to the English Premier League marked a significant step in his career, but after 21 outings, he returned to Italy.
Amrabat is also a regular for the Moroccan national team, having played a crucial role in their campaigns in the Africa Cup of Nations and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where Morocco made a historic run to the semifinals.
Fiorentina have already moved to secure a replacement for Amrabat, having agreed to loan Yacine Adli from AC Milan. Reports suggest that the Italian side is willing to lower the transfer fee to €13 million in discussions with Fenerbahçe. It is expected that Fenerbahçe will accept this figure, and they aim to finalise the Amrabat transfer this week, in order to include the player in their Europa League squad.

Amrabat didn’t impress hugely at Man Utd, but he did get even more big-game experience. The Premier League and Serie A are two of the biggest stages in the world, and he didn’t look out of place on either.
Turkey is a passionate football country, and the atmosphere is like no other. Often, players can struggle to adapt to that, but Amrabat has that crucial experience, which should make him a massive capture for Fenerbahçe.
