Marseille Move for Premier League Star Off the Table After Agent Confirms Political Obstacle

Olympique de Marseille’s pursuit of Manor Solomon appears to be over before it ever truly began.

The Israeli international, who starred on loan for Leeds United this season, is now unlikely to join the Ligue 1 side due to political concerns, according to his agent.

Solomon Unavailable Despite Marseille Interest

Marseille had been exploring the possibility of bringing Solomon to the Stade Vélodrome following an impressive Championship campaign with Leeds, where he helped guide the Yorkshire side back to the Premier League with 22 goal contributions in 39 appearances.

The 25-year-old, currently under contract with Tottenham Hotspur, had attracted attention across Europe, with Marseille understood to be among the clubs tracking his availability this summer.

However, any interest from the French giants was quickly shut down by Solomon’s agent, Shlomi Ben Ezra. He revealed that the player would not be joining OM, despite contact from incoming manager Roberto De Zerbi.

“[Roberto] De Zerbi sent a message to Manor, but he told him that he could not play for Marseille for political reasons,” Ben Ezra reportedly told French outlet Le 10 Sport.

The confirmation deals a blow to Marseille’s recruitment plans, especially given Solomon’s attacking profile, which would have suited De Zerbi’s high-tempo, possession-based style. The club is expected to pivot to alternative targets as they continue their summer rebuild.

Player Prefers Premier League Return

Solomon has not ruled out a return to Leeds United, who are keen to secure his services permanently following their promotion. His preference remains the Premier League, and his agent suggested a stay in England is more likely — if Tottenham are open to letting him leave.

“He likes the Premier League, but in football, you never know… It all depends on what Daniel Levy wants to do,” said Ben Ezra.

The winger’s Spurs future is yet to be determined, and he could be given a second chance in North London after returning from his Elland Road loan spell. However, with Leeds pushing hard and other Premier League sides also showing interest, a summer move remains highly possible.

Site Opinion

From a Marseille standpoint, this is a missed opportunity to add a dynamic wide player with proven end-product and top-level experience. Solomon would have fit the mould of recent wide signings, but the complex political reality makes a move untenable. While disappointing, the clarity allows Marseille to redirect their efforts early in the window — with De Zerbi keen to reshape the squad quickly, that may prove no bad thing.
