Paris FC have started their 24/25 campaign as they mean to go on, maintaining a perfect record in league matches.
An impressive away victory at Clermont Foot this weekend has caught the eye of many football fans across France, as they are starting to realise that Paris FC could be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming campaign.
For many years now, Paris FC have hidden in the shadow of their financially backed big brother, Paris Saint German. As they dominate France, year after year, the smaller Parisian side have languished in the second tier, failing multiple times to make the step up into the top flight.
Paris FC last played in Ligue 1 in 1978-79, the year they merged with ‘Stade Saint Germain’ to form Paris Saint German (PSG). Since, Paris FC have recreated, but have been unable to return to the highest level of French football.
After being unsuccessful in the Ligue 2 playoffs three times in the past five seasons, Paris fans will be hoping to skip the playoffs completely this term and be automatically promoted to Ligue 1, winning the title.
With players like Ilan Kebbal and Nouha Dicko, the Parisian outfit certainly has a right to be upbeat about their chances.
Paris made a strong start to the season with a convincing win away from home against promotion contenders Caen. Second-half goals from Gory and Kebbal helped the Blues secure all three points. This victory provided Paris with the momentum needed to be ruthless in the early stages of the season.
The Parisian’s next fixture proved to be a difficult one, as all three Paris goals came within the final 12 minutes of the match. Dunkerque proved to be stern opponents, as they were 0-2 up with 15 minutes remaining. However, the visitors couldn’t hold out for anything, as three late goals from Paris provided the Blues’ another victory.
Paris then went on to play Clermont Foot, a side that was recently relegated from Ligue 1 after a three-year stint in the top-flight. Clermont came into the game looking to continue their unbeaten start, whereas Paris were looking to extend their winning run.
Jean Phillippe Krasso gave Paris the lead inside twelve minutes, netting his first goal of the season. The Parisian side controlled the game from here on in, maintaining large amounts of possession throughout. The Blues produced a statement win in Gameweek 3, as they had just gone away to Clermont Foot and won.
Paris FC certainly have the quality to win this division and progress to Ligue 1. They have beaten three difficult opponents in these opening fixtures, so maybe this year could be the year that the Blues finally become a top-flight French side.
