Bundesliga 2 Matchday 4 Highlights

It’s matchday four in Bundesliga 2, and there’s plenty of action to look over.

Nobody has a 100% record, and once again, it looks like being a thrilling division for fans across Germany.

We’ve picked three matches worthy of looking over once again as part of our matchday four roundup.

Match of the Weekend: Schalke 1-3 Koln

Koln maintained their strong start to the Bundesliga 2 season with a commanding 3-1 win against fellow promotion contenders Schalke.

The visitors took the lead after 25 minutes, with youngster Damion Downs showcasing why he is set to be a key figure for Koln this season, slotting home the opener. Koln dominated much of the first half, and their efforts were rewarded just before the break when Linton Maina, a consistent performer for the team, doubled their lead.

Schalke, struggling to shake off a lethargic first-half performance, found themselves further behind just one minute into the second half. Tim Lemperle capitalised on a loose ball to score Koln’s third with a close-range finish, effectively sealing the points.

Despite Schalke pulling one back through a Kenan Karaman penalty with 25 minutes remaining, it was not enough to spark a comeback, and Koln saw out the match comfortably.

Fortuna Düsseldorf 1-0 Hannover

Fortuna Düsseldorf continued their strong start to the new Bundesliga 2 campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hannover, securing their third win in four matches and moving to the top of the table.

Danny Schmidt, the 21-year-old forward, proved to be the difference-maker, scoring the only goal of the game just before the hour mark. Schmidt reacted quickest to a rebound and calmly slotted home, notching his second goal in as many games. Despite having other opportunities, Schmidt was unable to add to his tally, though his single strike proved enough to earn Fortuna all three points.

The result means Daniel Thioune’s side remain unbeaten, building on the momentum from last season’s promotion play-off heartbreak. For Hannover, the defeat marked their first loss of the season, ending their unbeaten run as they struggled to find a way past Düsseldorf’s resilient defence.

Fortuna now sit atop the standings as they look to maintain their push for promotion.

Jahn Regensburg 0-4 Greuther Fürth

Greuther Fürth extended their unbeaten start to the season with a commanding 4-0 victory away to Jahn Regensburg.

The Cloverleaves took an early lead through Marco Meyerhöfer, who found the net from a corner to give the visitors a perfect start. After the break, Noel Futkeu doubled Fürth’s advantage, leaving Regensburg struggling to find a response.

US international Julian Green had a couple of shots blocked, but Branimir Hrgota was on hand to convert the rebound and make it 3-0. Green then capped off the performance with a superb fourth goal, securing the win and moving Fürth up to third in the table.

It was a dominant display from Fürth, as Regensburg had no answers to their clinical finishing.
