Standard Liege Eyeing Swoop For 21-Year-Old

Standard Liege are one of two Belgian clubs eyeing a loan move for Arsenal prospect Nathan Butler-Oyedeji, according to Football Insider.

K.A.S. Eupen are the other team tracking the 21-year-old, who appeared for the Arsenal Under-21 side against Lincoln City this weekend. He is not thought to be in Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans, and so a development loan does appear to be on the cards.

He does have senior experience across two loan spells in the English pyramid – one at Accrington Stanley and the other with Cheltenham Town. Both were in the third tier at the time of those loans, but both were relegated as the player completed his spells there.

He failed to score during either stint, and despite having a good record for the Arsenal youth teams, he now needs a senior loan to kickstart his career. The London-born attacker has two options in Belgium, the first being Royal Standard de Liège
or Les Rouches who finished 12th out of 16 in the top flight last season. Managed by former Croatian international Ivan Leko, the ten-time champions are hunting their first triumph since 2009.

K.A.S. Eupen cannot offer the player top flight football; they finished bottom of the Pro League last season and now face a title-challenge in the second tier. They have a former Arsenal youth on their books already – Regan Charles-Cook is a one-time Gunner who also played for Charlton and Gillingham, as well as representing Grenada five times.

Nathan Butler-Oyedeji is one of those exciting young wingers who seem to pop up out of nowhere and immediately make you sit up and take notice. Quick, tricky, and fearless, Butler-Oyedeji is the kind of player who’s always looking to take on his marker, and more often than not, he leaves them in the dust.

He’s got that raw pace and directness that make defenders break out in a cold sweat. Not content with just playing on the flanks, he’s also got a bit of versatility, able to slot in as a forward if needed. At youth level, he’s been quietly racking up the goals and assists, earning himself a reputation as one to watch.

Arsenal fans love nothing more than a homegrown talent breaking through, and Butler-Oyedeji is exactly that. If he does secure a move to Belgium, it will be with first-team football in mind. Eupen might be a safer place to guarentee that, but at Liege, he would enjoy better exposure.
