Serie B – Team of the Season

Over the next few days, we’ll be picking our team of the season for each of the biggest leagues we cover.

We’re going to start in Serie B.

GK: Andrea Fulignati – Catanzaro

The 29-year-old has been excellent for  Catanzaro this season, preventing 5.29 goals, almost twice his nearest rival. He’s also made the second-highest total number of saves throughout the campaign.

LB: Leonardo Sernicola – Cremonese

Leonardo Sernicola once appeared for Italy Under 20s, and if he keeps up this season’s form, he could be pushing for a place in the senior side. The full back has been superb as his side have pushed for promotion.

RB: Luca Zanimacchia – Cremonese

Operating on the other flank for I Grigiorossi, the 25-year-old has chipped in with goals and assists to help his side keep up their promotion push.

CB: Luca Ravenelli – Cremonese

Completing a trio of Cremonese players in our team, Ravenelli has been a key part of a side that has conceded the fewest goals in Serie B this season.

CB: Giorgi Altare – Venezia

The former Milan youth last played in Serie A for Cagliari and helped them to promotion last season through the play-offs. He’s been sensational for Venezia this season and could be set for a second promotion in as many seasons.

CM: Salvatore Esposito – Spezia

The one-time Italy international might have endured a challenging season with Spezia, who are facing back-to-back relegation, but he’s impressed. He’s certainly one who will be looking to move, should they drop out of the second tier.

CM: Alessio Vita – Cittadella

Vita has nine goal involvements for I Granata this season, a club he has served diligently for five seasons now. They’re safely ensconced in the middle of the pack in Serie B, in no small due to his efforts.

CAM: Adrian Bernabe – Parma

Parma was once a huge name in Italian football. With a five-point lead at the top of the table, they look to be heading back to Serie A. Ten goals from their slick Spanish midfielder have certainly helped them push up the table.

LW: Daniele Casiraghi – Suditrol

Stuck in midtable, Suditrol hasn’t had easy time shining, but Casiraghi has given them plenty to cheer about. He’s been involved in 20 goals so far this season and is approaching 200 outings for Tirolesi.

RW: Dennis Man – Parma

Romanian Dennis Man appeared for Parma when they dropped out of the top flight back in 2021 and has served them well ever since. Still only 25, he has 22 caps for his country but is included here courtesy of his 11 goals and four assists.

CF: Matteo Brunori – Palermo

Brunori is a former Juventus striker who has been prolific for Palermo for three seasons now. The club is likely to finish in the play-offs, and if they do, they’ll rely on their talisman striker to help them reach the promised land of Serie A. With 15 goals and five assists, he’s certainly been a key figure this campaign.
