RKC Waalwijk’s problems in the Eredivisie are mounting as they remain the only club without a point this season.
The team from Brabant suffered their fifth consecutive defeat, falling 3-0 to Willem II. RKC’s goal difference now stands at a worrying 2-15, with head coach Henk Fraser struggling to find solutions. Last season, RKC narrowly avoided relegation by securing their place in the league on the final matchday, finishing 15th.
The match started poorly for RKC, and they quickly found themselves chasing the game. In the 8th minute, defender Julian Lelieveld conceded a penalty after fouling Cisse Sandra. Kyan Vaesen stepped up to convert, confidently placing the ball into the top left corner. The Belgian’s strike marked his third goal of the season.
RKC’s first real chance came midway through the first half when Denilho Cleonise tested Willem II goalkeeper Thomas Didillon-Hödl, who made a comfortable save. Soon after, Willem II doubled their lead. Midfielder Ringo Meerveld weaved his way past several RKC defenders and slotted the ball into the far corner from the edge of the box, making it 2-0.
Triple Substitution Fails to Turn the Tide for RKC
Henk Fraser made three changes at half-time, hoping to spark a revival for his team. However, any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed. A shot from Nick Doodeman took a deflection off Roshon van Eijma, looping over RKC goalkeeper Jeroen Houwen and into the net, sealing the 3-0 victory for Willem II.
The win propelled Willem II up the standings, surpassing Feyenoord and placing them fifth in the Eredivisie with 8 points from five matches. Meanwhile, RKC Waalwijk remain bottom of the table, still searching for their first points of the campaign.
Site Opinion: Disastrous Start
RKC Waalwijk’s start to the season has been nothing short of disastrous. Five games in and still without a single point, the team is clearly struggling in all aspects of play. The defence has been porous, conceding 15 goals already, while their attack has been toothless, scoring just twice. Henk Fraser, who was brought in to steady the ship, now faces an uphill battle to turn things around before it’s too late. Last season’s last-gasp survival seems like a distant memory, and unless drastic improvements are made, RKC could find themselves staring down the barrel of relegation well before the end of the season.
The lack of confidence in the squad is evident, and even Fraser’s half-time triple substitution against Willem II did nothing to change their fortunes. What’s most worrying for RKC is the sense that they are being outclassed by even mid-table opposition, and their poor start has put immense pressure on the team to get points on the board quickly. Without an immediate turnaround in both form and mentality, this could be a long, gruelling season for the club and its supporters.
