Real Madrid are weighing up a move for Aston Villa defender Pau Torres ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Spanish international has reportedly caught the eye of the La Liga champions as they look to strengthen their defensive ranks. Torres, 28, has emerged as a standout performer in the Premier League since his arrival at Villa Park from Villarreal in July 2023. Despite some injury setbacks, he has made over 50 appearances for the club, contributing two goals and three assists.

Since joining Aston Villa, Torres has grown into one of the division’s most reliable defenders. The Spaniard’s composure on the ball and tactical intelligence have helped Unai Emery’s side push into European contention.
His performances have not gone unnoticed. According to the Fichajes report, Real Madrid see him as a natural fit for their backline, which has struggled with injuries in recent seasons.
“The reigning La Liga champions are scouring the market for a centre-back heading into the summer transfer window,” the report states, “and the 28-year-old Aston Villa defender has emerged as a target for Los Blancos.”
Defensive injuries prompt Real Madrid rethink
Madrid’s interest comes on the back of back-to-back injury crises in central defence. David Alaba has missed more than a year due to a knee injury, while Éder Militão has suffered two season-ending setbacks in as many campaigns. Antonio Rüdiger and Alaba are now both over 30, and Jesús Vallejo remains on the fringes.
The club are exploring several options. While Benfica’s António Silva is also under consideration, Pau Torres’ familiarity with La Liga and international experience make him a strong candidate to slot in seamlessly at the Santiago Bernabéu.
“The 28-year-old Spaniard is already well-versed in La Liga after spending several seasons with Villarreal,” the piece continues. “So, the Aston Villa centre-back should not take long to settle down at the Santiago Bernabéu.”
Villa reluctant to sell key asset
Convincing Aston Villa to part ways with Torres may not be easy. The defender is a key figure in Unai Emery’s system, and the Midlands club are under no pressure to sell — particularly with their recent progress in domestic and European competitions.
Still, a substantial offer from Real Madrid may test Villa’s resolve, especially if Torres expresses an interest in returning to Spanish football at the highest level. “It will be interesting to see if a summer move sees the light of day,” Fichajes concludes.
