The 26-year-old England international is nearing the final six months of his contract at Anfield, and Madrid view him as the ideal replacement for Dani Carvajal, who has been sidelined with a long-term ACL injury.
Respectful Approach from Real Madrid
According to reports, Real Madrid have taken the unusual step of formally registering their interest in Alexander-Arnold with Liverpool. While they could secure a pre-contract agreement with the defender as early as January, Los Blancos have opted to communicate their plans directly to Liverpool in a show of respect for the Premier League club.
Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly optimistic about the deal, believing that the presence of Jude Bellingham — a close friend of Alexander-Arnold — could play a pivotal role in convincing the Liverpool star to move to Spain.
Carragher’s Prediction
Despite Madrid’s interest, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes Alexander-Arnold will ultimately remain at Anfield. Speaking to CBS Sports, Carragher said:
“I think he will be very worried about the reaction if he didn’t sign and left on a free to go to Real Madrid. He’s been at Liverpool since he was a boy, he’s 26 now, and he’s won everything. You don’t want to lose that legacy.”
Carragher suggested that the local ties and emotional connection to the club would likely persuade the right-back to commit his future to Liverpool.
What’s Next for Liverpool?
With Alexander-Arnold’s future uncertain, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has remained tight-lipped about the contract situations of his key players, including Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who are also nearing the end of their current deals. Slot recently commented:
“For me, it is not something I am wondering about. My main focus is on the short-term.”
Salah, however, added fuel to the speculation by revealing he has not yet received a new contract offer from the club, stating, “I’m probably more out than in.”
