Raków Częstochowa Set To Terminate Player Deal

Polish side Raków Częstochowa could be sensationally set to terminate thecontract of keeper Kristoffer Klaesson after just a couple of months, as per reports from Poland.

Klaesson joined the Medaliki from Leeds United in the summer, but his spell in Poland could end without a single appearance. In July, he signed a three-year deal with the top-flight outfit and will be hunting European football after finishing seventh in the Ekstraklasa last season.

However the switch has proved problematic from the start – he was deemed overweight on arrival, with the coaching staff eager to work on his fitness. He was unable to comply with their requirements, and found himself fined and training with the reserves. The situation worsened and he missed their first game of the season against Lech Poznan.

It is now believed he was spotted by supporters in a local McDonalds, which has drawn the fury of coach Marek Papszun. The club are now expected to cancel his contract and it’s believed the player has spent the last couple of days in Norway with no intention of returning to Poland.

All of this stems from a promising start to his career, after joining Leeds United from Norwegian side Vålerenga in 2021. While he struggled to assert himself on the Leeds first team, he has gone on to appear 17 times for his country’s Under 21 team. He even made a single Premier League appearance and two in the Championship last season, not conceding a single goal during his time with the club.

He wouldn’t be the first player to have a contract cancelled early – the Brazilian striker Adriano had his contract with AS Roma terminated by mutual consent in 2011, just months after signing. He struggled with fitness and personal issues, including a battle with depression, leading to a mutual decision to end the contract early.

Carlos Tevez signed a lucrative deal with Shanghai Shenhua in 2016, but his time in China was short-lived. Tevez was criticized for his lack of effort, poor fitness, and even admitted that he was on a “holiday” in China. His contract was terminated after just one season.

Site Opinion

There’s got to be more to this than meets the eye. Klaesson showed no signs of problematic behaviour at Leeds, and it suggests a problem settling more than anything.

It is a blow to Raków Częstochowa, who will have considered the capture of the young stopper a coup, but it feels best for all parties to walk away now and cut their losses.

After all, the player is young enough to put this behind him quickly.
