‘Long Way To Go’ – Aberdeen Boss Looks Ahead After Perfect Start

Following a 1-0 victory at Ross County this weekend, Aberdeen sit second in the table with a perfect record.

Dons boss Jimmy Thelin has had a superb start to life in the Scottish Premiership, with his side winning all four of their fixtures so far.

The loss of Miovski to Girona this summer was thought to have taken a huge toll on Aberdeen’s chances, but they seem to have adapted well without their star man.

Kevin Nisbet has stepped up to replace him after he was loaned to the Dons from Millwall this summer, as he opened his account this weekend scoring a 98th-minute winner against Ross County. Jamie McGrath has also played a big part in Aberdeen’s successes this year, as he has contributed two goals and three assists.

When asked about the possibility of a title charge this season, Jimmy Thelin stressed, “Sometimes you can be excited about these kind of nights when you get a late winning goal, but the league is decided in May so there’s a long way to go.”

“I know it probably sounds boring to keep hearing it, but we take it game by game. This is genuinely the case and I think that’s why we’ve had such a successful start so far, because now the focus is good. Now we’re going to have the international break, so it was really important for us to finish on a high, especially with the start we have had.

“We have only played four games, but it has been a good start. Football is about passion and togetherness, and I think we should be proud of Aberdeen Football Club and its supporters and players.”

Aberdeen have Motherwell at home in a fortnight, in their next Premiership game. Dundee & Hearts follow before they play at Celtic Park for what Aberdeen hope will be a top-of-the-table clash.

Jamie McGrath & Pape Gueye will be key to maintaining their winning streak, considering the pairs form at the beginning of the term.

An Aberdeen title charge hasn’t been ruled out as of yet, but if this form keeps up, maybe it wont be one of the Old Firm duo at the top of the Scottish Premiership in May, but instead Jimmy Thelin’s Aberdeen.

Aberdeen have been successful in the Scottish Premiership, winning all four fixtures so far. Kevin Nisbet has seemed to replace Miovski very well, scoring a 98th-minute winner against Ross County, meaning the striker could become vital in a title charge. Jamie McGrath will also be key for Aberdeen, as he has contributed two goals and three assists.

Aberdeen’s title aspirations aren’t an idea to laugh out of the room, but realistically, it will be very tough to compete with the formidable Celtic. The Celts have recently hammered their old firm rivals Rangers, leaving them on a staggering +12 goal difference after four matches.

If Aberdeen get through their next three matches unbeaten with a couple of wins, and go on to get a result at Celtic Park, then maybe the Dons’ chances will be taken seriously.
