Former Trabzonspor Man Sacked By Cardiff City

Cardiff City has sacked former Trabzonspor midfielder Omer Riza with just three games left in the Championship season, as the Bluebirds find themselves teetering on the edge of relegation.

The 44-year-old’s dismissal came swiftly in the wake of a damaging 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United, a result that plunged Cardiff deeper into the drop zone. Now sitting 23rd in the table and one point from safety, the club has turned to Aaron Ramsey to steer them through a critical final run of fixtures against Oxford United, West Bromwich Albion, and Norwich City.

Riza’s Farewell: Emotional, Gracious, and Defiant

Despite the abrupt nature of his exit, Riza delivered a composed and heartfelt message via Instagram, expressing gratitude to owner Tan Sri, the board, players, staff, and fans.

“Although not quite there yet, I firmly believe we will survive,” he wrote. “The staff around the ground and stadium have all been supportive throughout and I wish you all the very best. The city, the club, the fans, players and board — you can only do this if you do it together.”

Riza looked back on some of the high points during his time in charge, including a rousing South Wales derby win over Swansea, a dominant victory over Plymouth Argyle, and the end of Watford’s long unbeaten streak. He also spoke movingly about the support he received from the fanbase following the recent passing of his father — a moment he said would stay with him forever.

Though the results ultimately didn’t align with the club’s ambitions, Riza’s parting words struck a chord: Cardiff’s best hope of survival lies in unity.

Ramsey Takes the Reins With Task of a Lifetime

After initially sparking optimism when he replaced Erol Bulut, Riza struggled to maintain momentum. Cardiff’s form remained patchy, and a lack of goals proved costly. Now, with relegation to League One — their first since 2003 — looming large, all eyes are on Ramsey to deliver a last-gasp revival.

Site Opinion

Omer Riza departs with his head held high, offering a message that should resonate with everyone associated with Cardiff City. This is no time for division. If Ramsey and his squad are to salvage their season, belief and togetherness must guide every step. The clock is ticking — but survival remains possible.
