Girondins de Bordeaux have bolstered their National 2 squad with the signing of 21-year-old English attacking midfielder Amadou Diallo.
The former Newcastle United reserve player is the latest addition to the club as they seek reinforcements ahead of their upcoming fixture against Bourges on Saturday. Bordeaux faces a challenging deadline for registering new players for this weekend’s National 2 match.
Diallo’s football journey began at West Ham United, where he progressed through the youth ranks and played up to the reserve level. He later joined Newcastle United in October 2022, featuring predominantly for their U21 side. In 32 appearances with the reserves, primarily as a left winger, Diallo scored five goals and provided five assists.
Although much of his time at Newcastle was spent with the reserves, Diallo did have a brief taste of Premier League action. He made his first-team debut in a 4-1 victory over Chelsea in November 2023, coming on as a substitute during injury time. He was named on the bench five more times during the 2023-2024 season but struggled to break into the starting lineup, partly due to injury setbacks.
Following a season of mixed fortunes and persistent injuries, Newcastle released Diallo and found himself a free agent during the summer. With offers in England failing to materialise, Diallo looked to crisis-club Bordeaux for his next opportunity.
The timing of the signing is significant, as Bordeaux hope to strengthen their squad before Saturday’s crucial match against Bourges. While Diallo is the first new player to officially sign for the team ahead of the match, Bordeaux’s management continues to search for additional reinforcements, with the aim of bringing in at least five more players to bolster the squad’s depth.
Bordeaux’s management team remains active in the transfer market as they aim to address gaps in the squad and compete at a higher level. With Diallo’s arrival, the club is hoping his experience and skills can make an immediate impact.

Bordeaux sees Diallo’s arrival as a strategic move, as they want to inject fresh talent into their squad. Diallo’s versatility across the attacking midfield positions makes him a valuable asset for coach Bruno Irles as the team looks to climb the ranks in National 2. His status as a free agent lowers cost, but if he is a hit, he’s young enough to generate some much-needed money.
The move to Bordeaux represents a fresh start for Diallo, offering the talented midfielder an opportunity to revive his career in a new country. For Bordeaux, Diallo’s signing could be the first of several key additions as the club continues its recruitment drive.
