Belgian giants Club Brugge are stepping up their pursuit of highly rated Luton Town midfielder Lamine Fanne Dabo as they prepare for a busy summer window.
Belgian Side Set to Challenge for Luton Star
Club Brugge are reportedly preparing an offer for Luton Town’s Lamine Fanne Dabo, with the midfielder attracting interest from across Europe following his brief spell in the Championship.
The 21-year-old joined Luton in January from AIK Fotboll after a deal was reached the previous summer. Despite the Hatters’ relegation to League One, Fanne Dabo impressed in his 12 outings, demonstrating the same ball-carrying ability and energy that made him a standout in Sweden.
According to Swedish outlet Fotboll Direkt, Brugge are among the frontrunners for his signature and are expected to formalise a bid in the coming weeks. English side Stoke City are also in the frame, but the Belgian Pro League club’s regular European involvement and strong track record in player development may provide an edge.
The report adds that clubs from La Liga and Serie A have also been monitoring the situation, although no firm offers have yet emerged from Spain or Italy. Fanne Dabo is believed to be open to a move, particularly one that advances his development on the continental stage.
Luton, however, remain in a strong position. The midfielder is contracted at Kenilworth Road until 2029, and while Transfermarkt currently values him at €4 million, it may take more than that to persuade the Hatters to sell, particularly so soon after relegation.
Club Brugge, under the stewardship of head coach Nicky Hayen, are keen to bolster their midfield options ahead of another campaign that will likely include European fixtures. The addition of Fanne Dabo would align with the club’s philosophy of nurturing young talent with resale potential.
“Fotboll Direkt confirm that Brugge and Stoke are the two clubs closest to submitting formal bids, with Luton braced for interest as the transfer window nears.”
Brugge’s reputation as a launchpad for emerging players into bigger leagues could prove a key selling point in talks with the 21-year-old and his representatives.
Site Opinion
A move to Club Brugge would represent a smart next step for Lamine Fanne Dabo. The Belgian club have consistently shown their ability to provide a platform for young players to thrive domestically and in Europe. Unlike Stoke, who are rebuilding in the Championship, Brugge offer a direct route into continental competition and a more technical environment that may better suit Fanne Dabo’s strengths.
Luton’s negotiating stance could prove a hurdle, but Brugge have the resources and project to tempt both club and player. If they move quickly, they could secure a player with genuine potential before other suitors in Spain or Italy firm up their interest.
