Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy has caught the eye of Barcelona following his outstanding performances in the UEFA Champions League this season, most notably a memorable hat-trick against the Catalan giants in last week’s quarter-final second leg.
The Guinean international came agonisingly close to inspiring a historic comeback for Dortmund, a performance that has reportedly placed him firmly on the radar of several European heavyweights.
Release Clause Interest from Barcelona and Others
According to Sky Sports journalist Patrick Berger, a specific clause in Guirassy’s contract permits a select group of clubs to trigger his release after the FIFA Club World Cup concludes this summer. Barcelona are among those eligible, alongside fierce rivals Real Madrid.
Berger revealed: “Barcelona are included in that list, which also includes arch-rivals Real Madrid.”
A host of Premier League outfits — including Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United — are also reportedly in contention should they choose to act on their interest.
Guirassy Committed to Dortmund
Despite the growing attention, Guirassy remains firmly committed to his current club. The striker has already netted 29 goals across all competitions this season and holds Borussia Dortmund in high regard, particularly after they placed faith in him last summer despite concerns over a previous knee injury.
Sources close to the player suggest he has no intention of pursuing a move elsewhere at this time. He is also not believed to be engaged in any negotiations with other teams.
Guirassy himself remains grateful, with reports noting: “Guirassy is happy with his life in Dortmund.”
Dortmund view the prolific frontman as an essential figure in their plans to rebuild and challenge for honours both domestically and in Europe over the coming years.
Champions League Form Making Waves
Barcelona are expected to continue keeping tabs on the 28-year-old’s development. Guirassy’s record of 13 goals in just 14 Champions League appearances this campaign underscores his burgeoning reputation on the continental stage.
Site Opinion
From a Borussia Dortmund perspective, the situation is clear: retaining Guirassy should be a non-negotiable priority this summer. Having placed faith in him when others hesitated, Dortmund are now reaping the rewards of a striker operating at the peak of his powers. His blend of pace, power and predatory instincts have elevated the team to new heights in Europe.
Nevertheless, with major clubs circling and a release clause in place, the club’s resolve is set to be tested. Dortmund must ensure Guirassy feels central to their ambitions if they are to fend off inevitable advances from Europe’s elite. Losing such a talisman would be a significant setback just as they appear poised for a new era of success.
