AGF Beat Glasgow Rangers To 20-Year-Old

AGF has bolstered their squad with the signing of Kristian Arnstad from Belgian side RSC Anderlecht, despite reported interest from Glasgow Rangers.

The 20-year-old midfielder joined the Danish club immediately after the two sides reached an agreement on his transfer. Arnstad was introduced to thousands of AGF today, ending Rangers’ interest in the player. They’d identified him as a target before last night’s transfer window, with Phillip Clement keen to shake up his squad. However, the player is now heading to Scandinavia for his new challenge.

Despite his young age, Arnstad is already an experienced and commanding presence in midfield. He currently captains the Norwegian U21 national team, for whom he has made 18 appearances, scoring five goals and providing seven assists. Arnstad has also represented Norway at every youth level, demonstrating his development and consistency throughout the ranks.

“We have been very much looking forward to welcoming Kristian to AGF,” said Stig Inge Bjornebye, the club’s sporting manager.  “He is a promising and skilled player who has great potential, but at the same time already a rather unique experience for his young age, and we believe he can continue his great development here with us.

“Kristian brings a high work capacity to our team, and his values as a player and a person are the same as ours. At the same time, Kristian offers a good technique and he can play several positions on a football field and thus also brings some variety and depth to our squad. So it’s a pleasure to be able to welcome Kristian”

Born in Oslo, Arnstad moved to Anderlecht in 2019 at just 16 years old, where he made a significant impact, playing 68 matches for the senior team. Before his move to Belgium, he honed his skills in Norway with IL Heming and Stabæk.

AGF have strongly started the Danish Superliga season, with four wins from their first six matches, as they aim for European qualification. The club, which finished sixth last season, hasn’t reached the group stages of a European competition since 1995 and last won the Danish championship in 1986, followed by the Danish Cup in 1996. Power is seen as a potential key addition as AGF looks to build on their early-season momentum.

Site Opinion

There was a feeling that a move for the youngster would have been a risk for Rangers, but AGF clearly doesn’t feel the same. In a week when they announced Max Power as a triallist, they purchased a youngster with an exciting future at the other end of the spectrum.

This feels like a good move for the player, heading home where he’s sure to settle easier, and strengthen his international ambitions. Club and player look like a really good fit,.
