Liverpool’s Transfer Dream Crumbles as Bayern Munich Close In on Coup

Liverpool’s hopes of signing Michael Olise have suffered a major blow after Bayern Munich opened talks over a new long-term deal with the French winger.

The Premier League champions have been tracking the former Crystal Palace star for months, but Bayern are making clear he will not be sold at any price.

Bayern Close Ranks Around Their Star Man

After a stunning debut season in Germany, where Michael Olise scored 35 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions, Bayern Munich are determined to build their future around him. Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed that the 23-year-old has no release clause in his contract and remains under deal until 2029, giving the Bavarians complete control over his future.

Reports in Germany claim Bayern will offer an improved deal running to 2031, rewarding Olise for his electric form under Vincent Kompany. He has already scored five and assisted four this term, continuing the impact that made him one of Europe’s standout performers last season.

That stance effectively ends any realistic prospect of a January approach from Liverpool. Despite previous scouting efforts and admiration from manager Arne Slot, Bayern’s firm position and Olise’s growing influence at the Allianz Arena make a transfer almost impossible.

Why It Matters for Liverpool’s Transfer Plans

For Liverpool, the setback comes amid a difficult run of form that has seen them lose four consecutive matches. With Mohamed Salah entering the final years of his contract, recruitment chiefs had identified a left-footed wide forward as a priority target for 2026, with Olise viewed as the ideal successor.

The Reds have already spent heavily in recent windows, bringing in Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, yet their need for another attacking option remains pressing. However, Bayern’s refusal to negotiate means Liverpool must now look elsewhere — potentially reigniting interest in players like Xavi Simons or Johan Bakayoko as more attainable options.

Olise’s rise from Selhurst Park to the Allianz Arena has been nothing short of remarkable, and Bayern’s swift action underlines their growing transfer authority in Europe. Once known for losing elite talent to English clubs, the Bundesliga champions are now dictating the market — and Liverpool, for all their ambition, have just been reminded of it.
