Serie A Round Up – Inter Go Top, Roma Keeping Up Pressure

Inter go top with a composed win over Lazio, as Serie A’s title race stays tight after another dramatic weekend across Italy.

Early goals, late drama and a touch of quality defined the round, with Inter climbing above Roma on goal difference, Bologna stunning Napoli, and Sassuolo delivering the shock of the weekend in Bergamo.

Inter hit the front, Roma keep pace

Inter struck early at San Siro, and that was all they needed. Lautaro Martínez set the tone after just three minutes with a deft finish inside the far corner, before Federico Dimarco’s driven cross midway through the second half gave Ange-Yoan Bonny a simple tap-in. Piotr Zielinski thought he had added a third, but a handball in the build-up denied it. Lazio hit the bar through Mario Gila, yet Yann Sommer’s sharp reactions preserved a clean sheet and sent Inter top of the table on 24 points.

Roma matched that total later in the evening with a steady 2-0 home win over Udinese. A first-half handball by Hassane Kamara gave Lorenzo Pellegrini the chance to open the scoring from the spot, and after the break Zeki Çelik combined neatly with Gianluca Mancini to double the lead. Mile Svilar’s reflex save from Vakoun Bayo ensured Roma kept pace, extending their unbeaten home run and maintaining the pressure on the leaders.

Bologna’s rise continues, Napoli stumble

Bologna made light of adversity to record a fine 2-0 win over Napoli. With Lukasz Skorupski injured early, teenage goalkeeper Massimo Pessina made his Serie A debut but was rarely troubled. The breakthrough came five minutes after half-time when Thijs Dallinga swept home from close range, before Jhon Lucumí rose highest to head in a second. Napoli hit the post through Noa Lang, yet their title defence continued to falter as Bologna climbed within touching distance of the top four.

It was the kind of disciplined, confident display that has typified Bologna’s recent form, built on compact defending and ruthless use of possession. With 21 points from their first 12 matches, they now sit just three behind the Milan clubs and remain the division’s quiet success story.

Elsewhere, Sassuolo silenced Bergamo with a stunning 3-0 win at Atalanta. Domenico Berardi scored twice, including one from the spot, and Andrea Pinamonti added another as the visitors produced their best away display of the season. In Genoa, the hosts drew 2-2 with Fiorentina in a lively contest, Leo Østigård and Lorenzo Colombo on target for the home side, while Albert Guðmundsson and Roberto Piccoli replied for the visitors.

Parma and AC Milan shared a 2-2 draw, Alexis Saelemaekers and Rafael Leão putting Milan ahead before Adrián Bernabé and Enrico Delprato restored parity. Three other matches ended goalless, with Juventus and Torino cancelling each other out in the Derby della Mole, while Lecce drew with Hellas Verona and Como held Cagliari in a stalemate.

After twelve rounds, Inter and Roma lead on 24 points, followed closely by Milan and Napoli on 22, and Bologna a point further back. With every slip proving costly, Italy’s title race is shaping up to be the tightest in years.
