Olympiacos And PAOK Lead Chase For Tom Lawrence As Wrexham Also Circle

Tom Lawrence is attracting serious interest from Greece as Olympiacos and PAOK emerge as frontrunners to sign the Rangers midfielder, who is expected to leave Ibrox at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old Wales international is approaching the expiry of his current deal, and with Rangers reportedly opting not to extend his stay, a host of clubs are preparing to pounce. Lawrence joined the Scottish Premiership side from Derby County in 2022 but has seen his time in Glasgow disrupted by persistent injuries.

Now fit again and back in the Wales squad for the first time in four years, Lawrence is poised for a fresh start — and Greece could be his next destination.

Olympiacos And PAOK Monitoring The Situation

According to multiple reports, Greek Super League powerhouses Olympiacos and PAOK are closely monitoring developments. Both clubs are said to be keen on adding Lawrence’s experience and quality to their midfield ranks as they prepare for European competition next season.

Olympiacos, a regular in the Europa League and Champions League qualifiers, are known for attracting British-based talent, while Thessaloniki-based PAOK are similarly ambitious and have targeted creative midfielders to strengthen their squad.

Lawrence’s availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive proposition, and the chance to play European football could tip the balance in favour of a move abroad.

“Let’s just say we didn’t see eye to eye in certain things,” Lawrence said when reflecting on his four-year absence from the national team.

The comments alluded to past managerial clashes but his recent recall suggests that he remains a valued figure for Wales — something that adds to his appeal for clubs seeking proven international experience.

Although Greek interest appears to be most serious at present, Wrexham are one of several English clubs keeping an eye on the situation. The Red Dragons, backed by owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are targeting high-profile recruits as they aim for promotion to the Championship.

Burnley, Coventry City, West Bromwich Albion, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers are also believed to be considering a move, but may be outmuscled financially or outmatched in terms of exposure if Lawrence opts for Greece’s top flight.

With previous spells at Manchester United, Leicester City, Ipswich, Cardiff and Derby, Lawrence brings proven pedigree and leadership, capable of playing across the attacking midfield and wide positions.

Site Opinion

Olympiacos and PAOK offer Tom Lawrence a fresh platform, European nights and a passionate football culture — and that could be hard to turn down. Wrexham’s romantic homecoming pitch has merit, but if Lawrence is looking for continental competition and a reset away from British football, Greece could be the ideal move. Either way, this summer promises a fascinating new chapter for the Welshman.
