Liverpool were torn apart in the Champions League as PSV produced a stunning 4-1 victory that deepened the crisis surrounding Arne Slot’s side.
PSV Punish Liverpool’s Errors
Liverpool’s night unravelled inside six minutes when Virgil van Dijk conceded a penalty for handball, allowing Ivan Perisic to sweep PSV into an early lead. Anfield responded with brief hope as Dominic Szoboszlai equalised from close range after Matej Kovar parried Cody Gakpo’s effort into his path.
For a short spell, Liverpool improved. Gakpo went close with a header and van Dijk struck the bar. The momentum shifted again on 56 minutes when Mauro Junior carved through Liverpool’s defence and Guus Til converted to restore PSV’s advantage.
From that point, the visitors were ruthless. Substitute Couhaib Driouech made it 3-1 by reacting quickest to Ricardo Pepi’s saved effort, sending the travelling support into full voice. He struck again deep into stoppage time, finishing low into the corner after a rapid PSV move.
Anfield Turns Restless
The fourth goal triggered a stream of Liverpool fans heading for the exits, a clear reflection of the wider unease surrounding Slot’s troubled period in charge. Liverpool have now lost nine of their last 12 matches in all competitions, their worst run since 1953.
Chances were created but wasted. Mo Salah blasted over from a promising position, while replacement forward Alexander Isak failed to offer a spark after Hugo Ekitike limped off. Defensive problems persisted as Milos Kerkez was caught on the wrong side for Til’s goal and Ibrahima Konate misjudged the cross that led to Driouech’s first.

Questions Mount For Slot
After impressive Champions League wins over Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid earlier in the campaign, Liverpool had hoped Europe would steady the ship. Instead, this defeat dropped them to 13th in the league phase and added further scrutiny to a side struggling for cohesion, confidence, and consistency.
This latest setback followed consecutive heavy league defeats and continued a run where line-up choices, tactical shape, and player form have all been questioned. Anfield’s frustration was clear at full-time as the players were booed off.
What Comes Next
Liverpool must now focus on their Premier League trip to West Ham on Sunday as they attempt to halt this alarming slide. They then travel to the San Siro for a high-stakes Champions League meeting with Inter Milan on Tuesday, 9 December.
PSV, buoyed by their first win over an English club since 2008, climb to 15th in the league phase. They next host Atletico Madrid on the same evening.
