Go Ahead Eagles are set to strengthen their midfield with the season-long loan signing of Derby County’s Kenzo Goudmijn, a move designed to add creativity and control as they aim to climb the Eredivisie table.
The 22-year-old is expected to join before the Dutch window shuts, providing a timely boost for a side still searching for their first league win of the campaign.
Eagles add Goudmijn to spark turnaround
Go Ahead Eagles have endured a difficult start to 2025/26, sitting 13th after four matches with three draws and one defeat. René Hake’s side have shown resilience against strong opposition, holding Ajax to a 2-2 draw and drawing 2-2 with Heerenveen, but the lack of a victory and a goal difference of -3 highlight the need for reinforcements.
Goudmijn arrives from Derby County, where competition for places limited his involvement following the arrival of Lewis Travis. A return to the Eredivisie offers him a chance to rediscover form, having previously impressed in Dutch football before moving to England. His early spell at Derby included goals against Bristol City and Cardiff, and Go Ahead will hope he can rediscover that eye for midfield contributions.
Why Goudmijn fits the Eagles’ needs
The Deventer club have scored six goals in their opening four fixtures but conceded nine, leaving them among the lowest performers in terms of defensive stability. Their inability to turn positive performances into wins has been evident, as shown in a 3-0 home defeat to Sparta Rotterdam despite strong spells of possession.
Goudmijn’s technical ability and ball retention are expected to provide greater balance in the middle of the park, giving the Eagles the chance to control games more effectively. His experience in England’s Championship, combined with his grounding in Dutch football, should allow him to adapt quickly to Hake’s system.
Site Opinion
From an Eagles perspective, this is a shrewd loan that could make a genuine difference. The squad has shown it can compete with top-half sides, but a lack of cutting edge has cost them vital points. Goudmijn adds both creativity and experience at a time when Go Ahead need to translate promising performances into results.
If he settles quickly, this signing could be the catalyst to turn draws into wins and stabilise their place in mid-table before the campaign drifts into tougher winter months.
