Fiorentina are reportedly preparing to dismiss head coach Stefano Pioli following their latest setback in Serie A, as patience among the hierarchy runs out after a string of underwhelming results.
The Viola’s 2–0 defeat away to Lecce at the weekend has intensified scrutiny on Pioli’s position, with senior board members now actively exploring options for his successor. While the 59-year-old guided Fiorentina to European qualification in previous campaigns, the club’s current mid-table form has left directors concerned about stagnation both domestically and in continental competition.
Board Evaluating Replacement Options
Early discussions have already taken place regarding potential replacements, with several high-profile Italian names believed to be on the shortlist. Among those being considered are coaches currently without clubs and others managing within Serie A who have impressed with limited resources. The board’s main priority is appointing someone who can revitalise the squad and restore a consistent style of play at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
According to local reports, Fiorentina’s sporting department is also reviewing the financial implications of a managerial change. Pioli’s contract, which runs until 2026, would require a compensation package that the club must weigh carefully against potential long-term gains from a new appointment.

Pioli’s Tenure Nearing Its End
Stefano Pioli returned to Florence in 2023 aiming to re-establish the club among Italy’s top six, but inconsistency has plagued his tenure. The team’s defensive vulnerability and lack of cutting edge in front of goal have frustrated supporters, who expected greater progress following heavy investment in attacking players such as Nicolás González and Lucas Beltrán.
For now, Pioli remains in charge of first-team training, but his position looks increasingly untenable. The next fixture, a home match against Udinese, may determine whether he remains at the helm or becomes the latest managerial casualty in Serie A this season. Club officials are expected to meet later this week to finalise their decision.
