Celtic Plot Fresh Approach for Serie A Star After Struggles

Celtic are keeping a close eye on midfielder Lennon Miller as the teenager continues to struggle for game time at Udinese following his move from Motherwell.

The 19-year-old was one of the standout young players in Scotland last season, producing several impressive performances before earning a switch to Serie A.

However, the transition to Italian football has not gone as planned, and his situation is being watched carefully from Glasgow ahead of the January transfer window.

Midfield options under review

With uncertainty still surrounding the managerial position, Celtic’s recruitment team are pressing on with their plans. Martin O’Neill remains in interim charge following Brendan Rodgers’ departure, and although he continues to steer the team through a strong domestic run, the club knows January will be crucial in shaping the second half of the season.

Transfer reporter Graeme Bailey has suggested that Celtic are monitoring Miller’s progress and could look to bring him back to the Scottish Premiership if the opportunity arises. The midfielder’s ability to dictate play and his sharp passing range made him one of Motherwell’s most exciting academy graduates, and his display in a 2–2 draw with Rangers last December reminded many of his potential to shine at the highest level.

Potential return to Scotland

Miller has struggled to adapt to Serie A, but those who worked with him in Scotland remain convinced of his talent. Former Motherwell boss Michael Wimmer once called him a “brilliant player,” praising his maturity and composure on the ball. A return north could provide the kind of platform he needs to rebuild confidence and regular playing time.

Whether Celtic make their move may depend on how Udinese handle the player’s situation in the coming weeks. With the Italian side fighting for consistency and Miller’s minutes limited, a short-term loan or permanent deal could suit all parties. For Celtic, it would offer a second chance to sign one of Scotland’s most promising young midfielders, and for Miller, a familiar stage on which to restart his rise.
