Brazil are closely monitoring Carlo Ancelotti’s situation at Real Madrid, as pressure on the veteran manager intensifies following the Spanish club’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Defeat compounds Madrid’s troubles
Real Madrid’s recent dip in form — including a damaging loss to Valencia in La Liga — has seriously dented their domestic title hopes. Tuesday night’s defeat at the Emirates has now cast fresh doubt over Ancelotti’s immediate future at the Bernabéu.
Sources suggest the Italian tactician is increasingly unconvinced of the club’s faith in his leadership, despite publicly maintaining his intention to stay. “I am focused on Real Madrid,” Ancelotti said in February. “But in football, things change quickly.”
Brazil’s long-standing interest
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) have been pursuing Ancelotti since 2023. President Ednaldo Rodrigues continues to see the former AC Milan and Chelsea boss as the ideal candidate to lead the Seleção into the next World Cup cycle.
Initially, Brazil had explored other options such as Jorge Jesus (Al-Hilal) and José Mourinho (Fenerbahçe), but negotiations with both proved fruitless. Jesus’s club refused to release him early, while Mourinho remains committed to his current project in Turkey.
Now, with Ancelotti’s position at Madrid appearing vulnerable, the CBF are reportedly willing to wait until July — potentially missing the June international window — to secure his signature.
Decision looms for Madrid and Brazil
With no permanent Brazil manager yet appointed, and Madrid fans growing restless after recent results, the next few weeks could prove decisive for Ancelotti’s future. Should results fail to improve, the path to Brazil could open sooner than expected.
Site Opinion
Last night’s humbling at the hands of Arsenal feels like a turning point in Real Madrid’s season — and perhaps in Ancelotti’s tenure. A side historically dominant in Europe looked toothless, disorganised, and uncharacteristically passive. If the Champions League campaign now ends prematurely, it’s difficult to see the club hierarchy sticking by Ancelotti for much longer.
Brazil’s long-standing admiration of the Italian coach is no secret. With rival candidates ruled out and the CBF showing patience, the stars could be aligning. If Ancelotti departs at the end of the season, don’t be surprised to see him trading the Bernabéu for the Maracanã — especially now that Madrid’s confidence in him seems to be fading fast.
