2. Bundesliga Round-Up: Elversberg Hit Six as Paderborn and Kaiserslautern Keep Pressure on the Leaders

SV Elversberg produced a stunning six-goal performance against Greuther Fürth to stay top of the 2. Bundesliga, while SC Paderborn and 1. FC Kaiserslautern earned thrilling victories to remain in the promotion chase.

The weekend saw goals, red cards, and late drama across Germany’s second tier, with the race for the top spots tightening after an action-packed round of fixtures.

Elversberg Run Riot, Darmstadt and Nürnberg Share Points

SV Elversberg were in unstoppable form as they thrashed Greuther Fürth 6–0 at the URSAPHARM-Arena. Bambasé Conté opened the scoring midway through the first half before being forced off injured.

After the break, Younes Ebnoutalib took over, scoring a quickfire brace and later completing his hat-trick with a clinical finish to make it four. Late strikes from Jason Ceka and Maxim Le Joncour added further gloss to an emphatic display that leaves Elversberg top after a fourth consecutive win.

Elsewhere, SV Darmstadt were held to a goalless draw by FC Magdeburg in a tense encounter at the Böllenfalltor. Sergio Lopez saw red late on for a second booking, but the visitors failed to capitalise despite their man advantage. At the Max-Morlock-Stadion, 1. FC Nürnberg and Holstein Kiel drew 1–1. Mohamed Ali Zoma fired the hosts ahead before Carl Johansson equalised with a looping header seven minutes from time.

Paderborn Edge Seven-Goal Thriller, Kaiserslautern Win Derby Classic

On Saturday, SC Paderborn battled to a 4–3 victory over Arminia Bielefeld in one of the season’s most entertaining matches. The visitors struck first through Joel Grodowski’s penalty, but Mika Baur levelled before half-time

Second-half goals from Steffen Tigges and Filip Bilbija turned the match in Paderborn’s favour, and despite Tim Handwerker’s late spot-kick for Bielefeld, the hosts held on to secure a fifth straight win.

In a heated Baden-Württemberg derby, 1. FC Kaiserslautern triumphed 3–2 against Karlsruher SC. Ivan Prtajin continued his prolific run with the opener, before Naatan Skyttä added a deflected second. Fabian Schleusener and Lilian Egloff pulled Karlsruhe back level, but deep into stoppage time Marlon Ritter finished off a swift counter-attack to seal a memorable away win and lift his side into the top four.

At the Preußenstadion, Preußen Münster drew 2–2 with Dynamo Dresden in another end-to-end contest. Alexander Rossipal’s first-half free kick put Dresden ahead, before Jorrit Hendrix equalised with a volley. Lars Bünning restored the visitors’ lead, only to score an unfortunate own goal late on to ensure a share of the points.
